how do they connect with youngers voters who might be a little busy on election day? >> i'm not sure it's even just younger voters, chris. i think sometimes, and when i look at my audiences when i do standup and i'm talking about these issues, i'm surprised i don't see a room full of people that just have purple surprisede with purple foreheads smacking their heads saying, i can't believe this is happening. it is a home run when people sit up and take notice. >> joel stein, your comments on why this stronger language by samuel l. jackson may inspire young voters? >> it's fun. if you're not for obama, it's not going to convince you. but if you need to get to the polls and feel like, i'm a sam jackson fan, this is my demo. i should be part of this. it's like any branding, that reminds you of who you are and you should get to the polls and vote for obama even if you aren't as excited as you were four years ago. >> that's why steve carell is doing this. let's watch steve carell. >> you should care. what's wrong with you? don't just watch the video. come on. what's wrong w

it's an election about the course of america. i will keep america strong and get america's middle class working again. >> that was a victory speech and a concession speech. side by side. >> yes, the president of the theater guild once taught me a lesson about writing plays. he said the most important two minutes of your play, never mind everything else, is the last two minutes before the audience goes out to intermission. that's what they'll remember, those last two minutes. and those last two minutes last night were a disaster for the president and a triumph for mitt romney. the president seems listless and anxious to get it over and he seemed unprepared. and what's more, he seemed to be going back to his stump speech. we were listening to the clichÉ of the day, the platitude du jour. he had the time to prepare something from the heart. we have been criticizing romney for not speaking from the heart. last night the positions were reversed. he did speak from the heart. was that the real romney or will another romney turn up? rem

how do you see the election standing now five weeks out? >> well, right now five weeks out if you can have a solid small lead, he has it, okay? he has hit what i think are his ceiling numbers, 49%, 50%, 51% in the state. hard to imagine in any of these battleground states with maybe the exception of ohio and iowa how he gets to, quote, 52% or even 53%. so he's at a ceiling. he's at about topped out. the question is how much coalescing happens around romney? i think you're seeing some of it now, and that's why he's popping among likely voters in particular. there's one other thing the obama folks have to worry about, we see evidence of it in our own polling, and it also explains why there's such a massive difference between registered voters back and forth between obama and romney and the likely voters. there is still an enthusiasm gap that favors the republicans. the republicans are fired up to vote against obama. whether they're fired up for romney, forget that question right now. they're fired up to vote out obama. you don't see that amon
